Louis Tomlinson dropped the lyric video for his emotional new song “Two of Us” today (March 8). Tomlinson co-wrote the track with Bryn Christopher, Andrew Jackson, and Duck Blackwell. The tender ballad marks the former One Direction member’s first release under Arista Records.
“Two of Us” is about his late mom Johannah Deakin, who passed away two years ago, just as Tomlinson was launching his solo music career. The British native singer-songwriter pours his heart into the lovely, emotional ballad, which is particularly moving in the have-a-Kleenex-ready-before-you-listen chorus.
He sings, “So I will keep you day and night/Here until the day I die/I’ll be living one life for the two of us/I will be the best of me/Always keep you next to me/I’ll be living one life for the two of us …”
Tomlinson launched “Two of Us” with a global live stream performance of it on YouTube in conjunction with its release. The single debuted high on iTunes charts, where it currently ranks at No. 3.
“Two of Us” follows Tomlinson and Steve Aoki’s collab chart-topper “Just Hold On,” which dropped days after his mom lost her battle with leukemia in 2016. The pair also premiered the song live on “The X Factor UK.”
Tomlinson’s career was launched as a member of One Direction when the group finished third on the seventh season of “The X Factor UK” in 2010. Now, Tomlinson and his 1D bandmates Harry Styles, Niall Horan, and Liam Payne are all pursuing solo careers.
Last year, Tomlinson returned to “The X Factor” as a judge, along with show boss Simon Cowell and fellow newbies (and husband and wife team) Robbie Williams and Ayda Williams. Cowell has promised many changes for the series in the upcoming season and it is not yet known if Tomlinson will resume his judging role for the next round.
“Two of Us” is available to purchase and stream on multiple digital platforms. Watch the lyric video above and stay tuned to AXS for Louis Tomlinson updates.
