Luke Bryan dropped a new music video on Thursday with an assist from an unexpected source: Minnesota Timberwolves basketball player Jimmy Butler.
Butler, a three-time NBA All-Star who was traded to the Timberwolves from the Chicago Bulls in June, is a well-known fan of all kinds of country music, including Luke Bryan; according to Taste of Country, he's attended several of Bryan's concerts. One thing led to another and Bryan cast Butler to star in his new video for "Light It Up," the first single from Bryan's upcoming album What Makes You Country.
In the video, which you can watch by playing the video above, Butler portrays a fictionalized version of himself who's trying to get back in touch with his girlfriend after a huge fight. He's upset that he still hasn't heard from her, even as he does post-game interviews and heads home from the arena. Will he be able to reconcile with the woman he loves? Shots of Bryan performing the song are intercut with Butler's story. It's a change of pace for Bryan, who normally stars in his videos, but his vocal talents plus Butler's star power make for a winning combination.
What Makes You Country is scheduled to be released in December; you can find more details about the album, including the track listing, here and pre-order it now on iTunes. The new record is just one part of a suddenly busy schedule for Bryan, who joined the judges' panel for the revival of "American Idol" earlier this month and will be featured in a new primetime TV special, "Luke Bryan: Living Every Day," on Nov. 8. Airing on ABC, which is the new home of "Idol" and also broadcasting the CMA Awards that same night, the one-hour show will take audiences inside Bryan's family life and the production of his upcoming album.
