Michael Bublé has hit the talk show circuit to promote his brand new album Love, which dropped Nov. 16 via Reprise. The charismatic Canadian crooner made an appearance Nov. 19 on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” and performed a cover of “When You're Smiling.”
Billboard reports on Nov. 20 that the four-time Grammy winner dazzled the home audience with his rendition of the classic jazz-pop standard, backed by his huge 16-piece orchestra. The multi-platinum seller's appearance follows hot on the heels of announcing a 27-city tour of North America, which launches Feb. 13 in Tampa, Florida, at Amalie Arena.
The international superstar receives massive cheers from the diverse “Tonight Show” audience as the song opens with a stripped-back intro of rhythm guitar, bass and drums. Bublé's smooth and confident style echoes big band era greats like Frank Sinatra and Tony Bennett as he delivers the opening verse singing, “When you're smiling/When you're smiling/The whole world smiles with you.”
Written by Larry Shay, Mark Fisher and Joe Goodwin in 1928, “When You're Smiling” has been covered by numerous artists over the decades from Louis Armstrong, Billie Holiday, Judy Garland and Nat King Cole. The song is one of 11 tracks on Bublé's lastest album Love, which is available here in standard and deluxes editions in CD, digital, vinyl and streaming formats. The “Haven't Met You Yet” hitmaker received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Nov. 16 in Los Angeles and recently expanded his 2019 world tour with spring leg in Europe and the U.K., which launches May 20 in Birmingham, UK, at Genting Arena.
