George Michael fans are eagerly awaiting the Oct. 21 premiere of Showtime’s riveting documentary on the late British pop superstar’s life “George Michael: Freedom.” A brand new star-studded trailer was recently released featuring some of the “Father Figure” singer’s close friends and musical peers such as Liam Gallagher, Elton John, Mary J. Blige, James Corden, Mark Ronson, and more.

Music from Michael’s smash hit “Freedom,” can be heard in the background as his famous friends sing his praises. Gallagher calls him a “modern day Elvis.” Elton John says, “George is authentic. He’s fearless.” And Mary J. Blige gushes, “You can hear pain. You can hear joy. You can hear everything in George Michael’s [music].”

This Christmas will sadly mark the one-year anniversary of George Michael’s death and many fans, critics and peers are still feeling the sting of his loss. "The Late Late Show" host James Corden, who is featured in the trailer, paid an emotional tribute to the "One More Try" singer on his talk show following his death last year. The upcoming documentary was announced about a month before he died and is credited with being Michael’s final work. You’ll hear Michael speaking about his own life and career in the film. In this clip, he ironically says, “I want to leave songs that will mean something to other generations.” It also features weigh-ins of his talent from his colleagues and pals.

George Michael is one of the biggest-selling artists of all time, having sold over 115 million records to date. His influence can be heard across multiple generations of artists, such as multiple Grammy-winning British singer-songwriter Sam Smith, who recently honored Michael by covering “Father Figure” and “Faith” during a recent visit to the BBC Live Lounge to promote his upcoming sophomore album. George Michael left a rich legacy of song across more than three decades and will always be remembered for being one of the first Caucasian British singers to bring a distinct soul sound to ‘80s music landscape.
