Last night’s MET Gala in New York City looked crazy. Rihanna brought the Pope's hat into 2018, Grimes showed up with Elon Musk as her date and Nicki Minaj announced her follow-up studio album to 2014’s The Pinkprint. Yes, you heard that news correctly - Grimes showed up to the MET Gala with Elon Musk. Okay, but on a more serious note (pun intended) Nicki Minaj turned everyone’s head when she rolled up to the star-studded event in an Oscar de la Renta gown, but it was her update on the long-awaited studio album that had fans buzzing first thing Tuesday morning.
As Billboard reports, Minaj gave the update on her album, which will be titled Queen, during a red carpet interview with a local news channel.
"It's a big night for me because I just let the world know that my album is coming June 15 and it's called ‘Queen,’ and I can't wait," she can be seen confidently telling the media in the footage video below. When asked if she was dressed like a “Queen” for the night’s celebrity-filled event, she responded with an equally confident, “Absolutely! I’m dressed like a queen every day, all day.”
News of the album’s title and scheduled release date should come as a much-appreciated relief for her fans, who have been waiting on a new album from Miss. Minaj for nearly four years since The Pinkprint arrived back in the winter of 2014. Minaj made headlines late last week when she shared the two music videos for her previously released singles, “Barbie Tingz” and “Chun-Li.” The video for “Barbie Tingz” can be watched in full above.
The singer’s two new songs in addition to the hugely successful “MotorSport” collaboration with Migos and hip-hop rival Cardi B late last year should give Minaj a trio of very strong singles heading into the new album campaign. She last performed at a TIDAL event at New York City’s Barclays Center back in October, and currently has no concert dates scheduled for 2018. With her first new album in four years on the way next month, however, fans should expect to hear a tour announcement in the coming weeks for the end of 2018 and heading into 2019.
