John Mayer’s Search For Everything summer tour was at The Forum in Los Angeles on Sunday night, and like most events in Hollywood, there were plenty of celebrities in attendance. Two of them just happened to be fellow musicians in Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee and rapper Post Malone, who both joined Mayer on stage to perform a cover of the latter’s 2016 hit, “Congratulations.”
As seen in the fan-shot video above, Mayer and Malone take their places with guitars in hand at the two mics up front while John Mayer Trio drummer Steve Jordan graciously welcomed Tommy Lee to use his kit to handle the drumming. While the song itself was written for trap and hip-hop performance styles, Mayer and his crew had no problem helping to provide a smoother musical flow for the rap lyrics to groove over. The performance came about halfway through Mayer’s Sunday night set, after he had already covered Beyoncé’s “XO.”
Mayer had previously been joined on stage by another younger pop star last week in Alessia Cara, who sung alongside him as they performed a cover of Erykah Badu’s “On & On,” and his Continuum hit “Gravity” at The Echoplex in Los Angeles.
The nearly 40-year-old guitarist just recently rebooted his solo tour, having taken a break during the first half of summer while performing around the country with Dead & Company.
