When it comes down to it, Rihanna, Paul McCartney, and Kanye West’s collaboration “FourFiveSeconds” will probably go down as one of the strangest songs of all of their careers. The single sort of came out of nowhere last year, and after a lot of hype and waiting around the song didn’t even appear on any album, existing as a one-off, denim-clad, folk-pop single with three musical titans that should’ve been a lot more than it was.
But while “FourFiveSeconds” lost steam in the middle of 2015, one man has been keeping the flame alive, always poised right on the edge of wildin’, Sir Paul McCartney. The former-Beatle has incorporated the song in setlists for his most recent One on One Tour, and at this year’s Desert Trip he played it during both weekends. The mega festival has been short on surprise guests, with McCartney the only one delivering and he did it again last night, inviting Rihanna to the stage for a “FourFiveSeconds” duet, a song selection and move that surely delighted Baby Boomers and young festival-goers alike.
