Run the Jewels stopped by NPR's Tiny Desk Concert series last week to deliver their musical message with strong vibes and a nice glint of hope. With the help of a small audience and some E&J brandy, El-P and Killer Mike rolled through their songs "Talk to Me," "Legend Has It," and "A Report to the Shareholders" with precision, conviction and humor.
Towards the end of their spirited set, Mike got real with his D.C. audience: "At some point in the future, they’re going to try to label us a political rap group and that we are not," he explained. "We don’t care what party you belong to, we don’t care who you supported, we don’t care what you’re doing tomorrow politically. We care that socially every one of you know you’re absolutely born free and nothing has the right to interrupt that freedom."
RTJ are currently in the midst of their Run the World tour, which is making stops at the Showbox SoDo in Seattle and Arvest Bank Theatre in Kansas City this week. Check out the full run here and take a look at their smooth moves via NPR below.
