Music fans are a month away from the next season of "The Voice", so NBC is rolling out a first look at Season 13 of the singing competition. Get your first look at what's ahead this fall by using the media player included with this article.
Adam Levine, Blake Shelton, Miley Cyrus and Jennifer Hudson are the coaching panel for the upcoming season, which will begin on Monday, Sept. 26. Cyrus is returning to the show in her usual rotation with Gwen Stefani, while Hudson was announced in May as the replacement for Alicia Keys. Keys decided to leave "The Voice" after two seasons to return to her own music career, but ended her reality TV tenure on a high note when her finalist Chris Blue was named the winner of Season 12.
That makes the new season very interesting, because for the third time in 13 seasons, the reigning champion won't be present to defend their title. Keys, Christina Aguilera and Usher all exited "The Voice" immediately following a victory. So the field is wide open this fall for someone else to start a winning streak. On top of that, the acquisition of Hudson isn't just another personnel change. The "American Idol" alumni has previous "Voice" coaching experience, having participated in the British edition of the show, and she won "The Voice UK" just four months ago.
Plus, when "The Voice" returns, it will be returning to a television landscape that it no longer dominates. After being the only singing competition on the air for a brief period, the series will face renewed competition as ABC is bringing back "American Idol" and FOX has ordered a new singing series called "The Final Four." Meanwhile, NBC has been considering reducing "The Voice" from two seasons a year back down to one. Depending on what moves happen behind the scenes, Season 13 of "The Voice" may be the last season of the show as fans currently know it.
That's all the more reason to tune in next month and watch the competition begin again. "The Voice" will roll out a two-night premiere, cut down from its usual three-night opening week, on Sept. 26 and 27.
"The Voice" returns Monday, Sept. 26 at 8 p.m. on NBC. For more on any of the Season 13 coaches, including when and where you can see them live, click their names above to visit their artist pages at AXS.
