The Pennsylvania indie rockers, Tigers Jaw, have released the official video for their track “Escape Plan,” taken from their new album, spin (stylized lower case). Produced through Will Yip’s new Atlantic Records imprint, Black Cement Records, the major album debut dropped back in May.
Tigers Jaw is a blend of emo and indie rock. The original band, formed in 2005 was a five-piece. Now a duo, comprised of Ben Walsh and Brianna Collins, is one of Scranton’s hottest young rock bands.
spin, a 12-song album, is a collection of songs entirely written and recorded by Collins and Walsh. Their stream-of-consciousness relatable lyrics have matured over the years, as evidenced in their latest LP. Their heartfelt words could be lost on their audience without the vocal veracity to sell what they are singing emotionally. Both Collins and Walsh do just that—connect directly with the emotions of their listeners.
One of the standout songs on spin is “Escape Plan.” The track features powerful harmonies, full of raw angst, brilliantly executed. The thought-provoking video depicts the constant battle we all wage daily between the real world and our love affair with today’s technology. Drawing on conversations Walsh had with his grandfather before his passing, Walsh hopes the song/video will be a reminder to all of us to look up from our phones once in awhile and enjoy the world around us.
Tigers Jaw hits the road next month with Manchester Orchestra on a U.S. tour. The duo will crisscross the U.S. as direct support on Manchester Orchestra’s ‘A Black Mile to the Surface Tour.’ The trek starts out in Orlando, Florida on Sept. 5. Tigers Jaw fans will get the chance to hear new songs off spin. Dates continue through October where the tour wraps up with a performance at the Tabernacle in Atlanta, Georgia.
