Trey Anastasio Band vocalist and trumpet player Jennifer Hartswick was at New York's Rockwood Music Hall Wednesday night (Oct. 10) for a show with longtime collaborator, Nth Power guitarist Nick Cassarino. Hartswick played a number of songs from her and Cassarino’s latest album, Nexus, but they weren’t the only Vermonters who took the stage that night. Throw in a jazz legend and you’ve got one hell of a sit-in.
To close out the show, Hartswick welcomed her TAB bandmate Trey Anastasio as well as one of her heroes and collaborators, legendary jazz bassist Christian McBride. As Jambase reported, Hartswick and Cassarino brought up McBride--who recorded Nexus with Jen and Nick at Anastasio’s Vermont studio, The Barn--for a live rendition of the Nexus song “Numb.”
Hartswick then introduced Trey, who joined the band on the Nexus tracks “You Can’t Take It Back” and “Silent Waves.” Trey stayed on to close out the show with a 12-minute version of “Drown In My Own Tears,” made popular by Ray Charles. You can check out the video of the stellar sit in above.
Trey Anastasio is hitting the road in December for an intimate solo acoustic tour. Click here to browse AXS for tickets to select Trey Anastasio dates.
