Van Morrison continues to build anticipation ahead of the release of his star-studded studio album Roll with the Punches, which drops Sept. 22 via Caroline Records. The six-time Grammy winner has unveiled an official live video of the album's lead release “Bring It on Home to Me.”
Rolling Stone reports on Sept. 1 that the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer's live rendition of the 1962 Sam Cooke classic was originally filmed and recorded at a concert held on July 11 in London at Porchester Hall. “Bring It on Home to Me” is the second official live video to surface from the album, following the release last month of a performance of the album's first single “Transformation.”
The 5:28 minute performance opens with a slow arpeggio on guitar as the “Brown Eyed Girl” hitmaker introduces the song with a nod to Jeff Beck, who sat in with Morrison on the studio version of the track. The Belfast Belter delivers a soulful performance, playing with the vocal melody lines and applying his unique phrasing to the pop standard, singing, “If you ever/Change your mind/About leaving/Leaving me behind.”
Roll with the Punches features Morrison covering ten R&B standards along with five originals and is available for preorder here in a variety of bundles in CD, digital and vinyl formats. Fans can check out the live performance of “Bring It on Home to Me” above and check out the studio version featuring Beck here.
