In 2019, the world will celebrate the 50th anniversary of Woodstock. To commemorate the anniversary of the biggest music festival the world has ever seen, Bethel, New York is planning to celebrate the event in August.
The dates of the special three-day celebration will be August 16-18. According to the press release of the event, it will feature musical performers as well as special speaking guests delivering TED-style talks.
Live Nation Concerts and INVNT will set up the celebration, which has the long title: "Bethel Woods Music and Culture Festival: Celebrating the golden anniversary at the historic site of the 1969 Woodstock festival."
The event will see both prominent and emerging young artists and they promise that there will be performers from multiple generations and genres. The Museum at Bethel Woods will also be open to the public, as it tells the history of the 1960s. There will also be a new exhibit titled "We Are Golden: Reflections on the 50th Anniversary of the Woodstock Festival and Aspirations for an Aquarian Future."
The original Woodstock featured bands like The Who, Grateful Dead, Santana, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. There was also a 25th-anniversary concert in New York with performances by Sheryl Crow, Joe Cocker, Metallica, Nine Inch Nails, Cypress Hill, Bob Dylan, Aerosmith and more. There was also a 30th-anniversary event.
