Hailing from Brooklyn, New York, Katorah Marrero, better known by her stage name, Young M.A has become one of the most prolific lyricists of this current generation of hip-hop. Her charisma, street consciousness, and vocal cadence have garnered her international notoriety and allowed her to pursue a music career outside of utilizing hip-hop for therapeutic purposes. Young M.A's 2014 "CHIRAQ" freestyle brought her to the forefront of New York when lyricism and creative substance had been lacking from the region for some time.
At the tender age of 17-years-old, Marrero lost her older brother, Kenneth Ramos, due to being stabbed by a former associate. The loss of her brother would then drive her to pursue music as a means of escaping the poverty-stricken streets of Brooklyn. Now, 27 years old Young M.A is an established artist using her platform to bring awareness to her very own Kweens Foundation. An initiative the "PettyWap" rapper has launched alongside her mother to assist single mothers and low-income families. The Kweens Foundation also reaches out to parents who have lost their children to street violence and provides the victim's families with resources to cope with the loss of their fallen family members.
Now, with her debut album, Herstory In The Making, preparing to drop in fall and several hit singles under her belt, Young M.A and her team have revealed that she will be partaking in a one-time performance at the El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles, California on May 31 (Tickets). Tickets for the one-off live production can be purchased, here.
