A LA Galaxy emoji beach towel will be given to Galaxy spectators on Saturday when they face New York City FC at the StubHub Center in MLS action. Galaxy forward Gyasi Zardes made a promotional appearance this past week to help generate interest in the towel, that includes himself, and teammates Jelle Van Damme, Romain Alessandrini and Giovani dos Santos.
Zardes does not have a goal in 14 games for the Galaxy this season, but the forward missed some action this summer because he was helping the United States win the 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup. In the championship game on July 26, the United States beat Jamaica 2-1 at Levi's Stadium in San Francisco.
The Galaxy do not find themselves in a good position to qualify for the 2017 MLS Cup playoffs. They are currently nine points back of the San Jose Earthquakes for a playoff spot. In between the Galaxy and the Earthquakes are the Vancouver Whitecaps FC and Real Salt Lake. Fortunately for the Galaxy, in soccer, unlike hockey, teams get three points for a win instead of two, so there is still time for the Galaxy to make up some ground on their Western Conference opponents. However there is no question that the Galaxy are in a bit of a funk at the moment as they did not win a game throughout the entire month of July.
